It’s my second favorite movie of the year. The animation looks great and I love the vibes. It’s one of my favorite movies to fall asleep to now.

I cried so much in the theater while watching it. I was honestly taken aback by how creative and EMOTIONAL it was. For me it managed to capture how interpersonal experiences are what makes life so painful and uniquely joyful at the same time. One of the best animated films I’ve seen.
I think given the butchered release, movies like this are what Criterion was made for.
Is it good? Yes. Is it overhyped? Yes.

I like the choice to go with crisp, thick lined animation in contrast to the (equally good) purposefully low frame-rate purposefully jagged animation seen in spider-verse and The Last Wish
It’s a bit of a hard sell to a wider audience and friends as “the no dialogue cartoon,” but it was my favorite movie on the “I only watched this cuz it was Oscar nominated” list
Absolutely loved it. I see why it was nominated for Best Animated last year at the Oscars, even though I saw it this year. Released in Spain December 6, I saw it June 2024.
I applaud a movie that makes a point to achieve something and does it. In this case, it’s a hand drawn animated movie with no dialogue. Kudos.
A definite highlight was just getting a new movie in 80’s NYC.

The main conflict of the movie didn’t work for me because the rules don’t feel established. Is Robot a person? Is Robot a video game console? Is Robot a metaphor for digital music? If he’s like a person…dog can’t just leave him out there on the beach.
The same ambiguity that gives the movie it’s charm removes the stakes from the main situation. I get heart broken when Robot is left behind, and then I think of my old cell phones and it doesn’t feel like such a loss.
Fantastic film.
I laughed my arse off when the dog wraps a towel around his waist to take off his swim shorts and then just takes it off because he’s usually naked.
